The bed comes with Serta Perfect Sleeper pillow top mattress and standard height box spring. This set comes from smoke-free home. Mattress was always kept in mattress topper, its clean and is in excellent condition. If you do not wish to buy the bed with mattress, its your choice. If you don't want the mattress, there is $100 reduction in price. I prefer local pickup, but it can also be shipped via freight. I had shipped a number of large furniture items through uShip to Maryland, Texas, North Carolina and California just to name a few. The $500 shipping cost enter in cost of shipping is just an estimate, actual shipping price will vary based on your location and availability of freight providers in my area.
